Elliot Dawea

Political Journalism in the Solomon Islands

CMJ political journalism course graduate, Elliot Dawea, has won a top national media award in the Solomon Islands for the second time.
Elliot was named Political Reporter of the Year in the annual Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) journalism awards. The awards were presented by Australian Broadcasting Cooperation International, at a special event in the King Solomon Hotel last October. He has also won the Senior Reporter of the Year award twice.

Elliot enrolled with CTJT in 2011 and had no previous journalism experience. He said: ‘I hope this award will inspire other students to do courses with CMP.’
Elliot Dawea is now studying at Divine Word University in Madang, Papua New Guinea, for a BA in communication arts, journalism, politics and international relations. He is sponsored by the Solomon Islands National Government.

CMJ director Cleland Thom said: ‘We are so proud of Elliot’s continuing achievements. They show how our distance learning courses can change people’s lives, even when they live on remote islands, thousands of miles away.’
