Membership – how to join us.
The Association of Distance Learning Colleges; Membership
We welcome enquiries about Membership of the Association from providers of Home Study and Distance Learning programmes, with students based in the United Kingdom.
To be eligible for membership, providers must demonstrate that their courses are suitable for UK students, they offer effective tutorial support, and they maintain a strong system as well as a good reputation and a proven track record.
Advice and Assistance
The Association’s mission is to provide help, support and advice to Distance Learning providers, whether established or just starting up. To this end we have developed suite of templates that cover the many aspects of running your business – see them listed here DOCUMENT TEMPLATES FOR MEMBER COLLEGES.
Code of Ethics
All member colleges must agree to comply with our Code of Ethics. This guarantees a high standard of service and integrity on the part of all Colleges.
The Association’s logo on your web pages and promotional material gives potential students an assurance of quality and fair dealing. In the event of queries or complaints the Association can provide a useful arbitration service.
Publicity
Our website includes a page for each Member College, lists of available courses and their providers, and links to members’ own websites. The Association is active on social media, promoting its services and ethos and copying and retweeting Members’ posts.
Public relations
We respond to issues raised in the media, and generally seek to raise the profile of correspondence education and keep it in the public eye.
Communication
The Association provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on distance learning.
We have an Annual General Meeting in London, and further meetings for Members throughout the year. These are a useful talking-shop at which Members can exchange ideas, share problems and assess how the Distance Learning industry generally is faring. It can be a lonely business, since so much of our work happens remotely – it is always good to seek out like-minded company. Members can also ask for advice by telephone or email.
Cost
The cost of membership of our Association varies according to the size of the college and its fee income.
Membership runs from 1 February to 31 January each year.
