AdultEducation100 – the Commission | November 29th, 2018

November 2019 will mark the centenary of the Ministry of Reconstruction’s Final Report on Adult Education.

This report set the groundwork for a liberal approach to adult education for the rest of the 20th century. Its centenary is, we believe, a vital opportunity to reflect on the needs and possibilities for adult education today and into the century ahead.

In 1919, Britain faced immense economic, political and social challenges. Today’s challenges, though different, are no less profound.

What’s happening in 2018/2019?

A programme of activities will mark the centenary of this important report.  As part of this, and to stimulate a wide-ranging debate and to open up new avenues for the development of adult education for the century ahead, we are setting up The Commission on Adult Education, along with the steering group that makes up the campaign AdultEducation100 – supported by the WEA; Co-operative College; Raymond Williams Foundation, University of Nottingham and the University of Oxford.

How can you take part in the debate and feed into the Commission on Adult Education?

You can run events, coffee mornings and lectures that centre around adult education – past and present. This could include ‘coffee, cake and debate’ sessions; history courses focused on this moment in time with a debate added at the end; or events that include a mixture of activities.
